Course Details

This one day course will provide you with the necessary skills for the safe use of small powerboat, including the equipment to be carried, knowledge of seamanship, navigation and weather. 

Your powerboat pathway begins here introducing practical driving skills, trip planning, boat maintenance, and safety equipment. Following the course you will have sufficient skills and knowledge to skipper a small powerboat. 

In some instances, you can take your completion certificate to your State Maritime Regulator and gain the State Boat License. 

Length of Course 

The course usually runs over 1 day 

Who should do this course 

This course is designed for participants who wish to further develop their powerboat driving skills. 

This course is also a prerequisite for becoming a Dinghy and/or Windsurfing Instructor.

What to Bring 

DSC will provide participants with life jackets and boats. We have toilets and change rooms, and water fountains.

However there are a few things you will need to bring with you to ensure safety and fun on the water:

  • Close-toed shoes (no thongs)
  • Hat
  • Water bottle
  • Sunscreen
  • Lunch for break (if desired): There is limited space in the Club esky, however if you have your own to keep your lunch cool please bring it along.
  • The Waterfront Bistro will also be open where you can purchase meals, alternatively you will have an hour for lunch if you would like to leave the Sailing Club.
  • Stinger suit or leggings (Box jellyfish are still present in the water so some form of protection is recommended)
