DARWIN SAILING CLUB – YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
The Youth Development Program provides the ideal opportunity for the ongoing skill development of youth sailors aged 15 – 24 years of age. The program is being delivered on our existing Elliott 7 keel boat fleet an is aimed at sailors with pre-existing sailing skills and abilities.
The overall objective of the program is to become “a better sailor”. The program includes a number of different activities including on water training on the Elliott’s, race participation on club members boats, boat maintenance and team building and mentoring activities amongst others. Along the way participants will develop valuable transferable life and leadership skills.
The program is also a lead in to the well established national and international Youth Match Racing Circuit for the sailors who have a desire to test their skills against peers from other clubs, which are running similar programs.
The program is typically delivered as 2 sessions/week for about 3 hours a session and is facilitated by a club internal Youth Development Coach. It is designed to be complementary to the existing club activity rather than as a replacement.
There are some eligibility criteria for acceptance into the program and participation requires a high level of commitment. An application form will need to be completed by all participants and an annual fee is payable upon acceptance, to contribute to some of the cost incurred in running the program.
Places are limited and acceptance of applications will close upon filling these.
Please visit our dedicated Youth Development Program webpage for all the details on the program. You will also find a link to the application form there.
Applications are open now
