2017 Australian Women’s Keelboat Regatta

NT Team ‘Arafura Bubbles’ six member all-women crew (Fiona McManus - Skipper, Christine Knight, Carolyn Talbot, Philippa Williams, Vivienne Eugster and Robin Knox) will be facing incredibly different conditions from the tropical waters of Fannie Bay to compete in the 2017 Australian Women’s Keelboat Regatta (AWKR) on Melbourne’s Port Phillip Bay, this coming June long weekend.

The 2017 AWKR will be celebrating its 27th year on the waters of Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron in St. Kilda. This regatta is held annually over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend in June, and will be the 4th year running for an NT team to be involved.

The AWKR is a notoriously fun, often cold but invigorating, and always very competitive regatta. This year has attracted 23 entries, of which eleven are S80 one design yachts. Teams from all states and territories of Australia will be participating, including 3 teams from Townsville Sailing Club who will be sailing in the S80 Division. The competition will be fierce.

Team ‘Arafura Bubbles’ would like to thank Fred & Lyn Barlow for the very generous loan of ‘The Cleaning Lady’ for the past 6 weeks enabling the team to train nearly twice a week.A big thank you also for valuable coaching and assistance from Jonathan Talbot, Dominique Lynch (who’ll be on reserve in Melb) and Vicki Woodrow.

For more info, daily updates and results check out the AWKR website.
