Boat Licenses now available to NT residents

Boat Licenses now available to NT residents

Holding a valid Recreational Boat Licence is a legal requirement for those wishing to operate a powered craft (including sailing vessels) in all states and the ACT (except NT).

Holders of an Australian Sailing Start Powerboating Certificate or Powerboat Handling Certificate may now apply to Marine And Safety, Tasmania (MAST) for Tasmanian (recreational) Motor Boat Licence, which meets the requirements for operating a boat outside the NT.

Tasmanian licences are valid for three years and currently cost $47. As all licences expire on the same date (next expiry - 30th June 2018) a pro-rata fee is charged for those issued mid-period.

This outcome is as a result of negotiations with MaST over a three year period, by DSC and more recently Australian Sailing.

To apply for a Tasmanian Motor Boat Licence:

If you have completed either course but cannot find your qualification through your MySailor profile please contact [email protected]

At least until the process has been well tested, please advise Australian Sailing of your application to MaST and any issues that arise.
