Sail, socalise and dine in the heart of Darwin
The 2018 Darwin - Saumlaki Yacht Race & Rally started this Saturday in calm conditions at 1000 in Fannie Bay, with nine boats and around 45 crew undertaking the race to the Tanimbar capital, Saumlaki.
The forecast winds provided a challenging race and Khamsin (Adam Gollow) took some time out in the shelter of the Tiwi Islands to wait for calmer weather. Mai Tai (Ian Pollock) had some unfortunate gear failure and had to turn back and retire from the race.
Monohull Synchronicity Too (Veronique De Vaulx) and multihulls Kuching (Bruce Panting), Prout 45 (Greg Lye), Pseudorca (Carol Plamer) all finished safely with plenty of stories to tell.
Congratulations to Vitamin B (Steve Winspear) who got line honours in an exciting finish less than 5 minutes in front of Wallop (Marcus Ilton) and winner of Division 3. Also to Avnago (Commodore Peter Lockett), handicap winner of Division 1.
