Sail, socalise and dine in the heart of Darwin
NT Sailing Team sailors Paris van den Herik and Aden McGrath have just finished 10 days of intense training and racing in Brisbane at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron.
Paris is in her final year of school, but still finds time to train hard in her Laser Radial. Her ongoing commitment over the last few seasons has really paid off as she finished 2nd overall, and was 1st of the females in the fleet!
For Aden it was his first competitive step out of a Minnow and into a Laser 4.7. He finished 6th overall in the highly variable conditions. He won 3 of the nine races which is an excellent way for him to start.
The Laser class provides young NT sailors with an excellent affordable option for development, and allows them to get away to join bigger and more challenging fleets interstate and overseas. The three different rig sizes accommodate a range of sailors, and the technical nature of the boat encourages skill development.
The success of Paris and Aden at this event is further great testimony to the quality of the performance sailing culture at the club. Special thanks need to go to Darwin coaches Tom Winter and Nick Fewster for all their care, skill, and perseverance.
