A beautiful Darwin wet season evening set the scene for the naming ceremony and MC Jonathon Talbot ensued the program proceeded almost perfectly according to schedule. The Darwin Sailing Club Elliott 7s will allow the club to lift our adult learn to sail programs to a much higher standard, providing better student : instructor ratios and better competence of graduates.

  • Our first course starting March 22nd is a Wednesday morning women’s learn to sail. Enrolments are open on the website.
  • Open (Saturday) Keelboat Learn To Sail courses start in May.
  • There will be a Keel Boat skipper course for those members who can sail, but don’t currently meet the pre-requiresites to hire an Elliott. The first of these is also in May.
  • During the end of term break in April there will be an Intermediate Youth program, for experienced kids 12 years and up. Applications will open next week.
  • The Youth Development Program for 15 -23 year olds starts later in the year. This program includes fitness, campaign planning, Race management, boat maintenance and fundraising.

Having this matched fleet of Elliotts provides the opportunity for quality match racing and adds a new and exciting competition format to our sailing program. Match Racing activities this year include:

  • Australian Sailing conducting Youth and Open Match Racing Clinics in June
  • Also in June - An Open Match Racing day, a trial run for
  • The Darwin International Youth Match Racing Regatta in July – we will be looking for club members to provide billets for visiting crews here, and
  • In September, The Darwin Open Match Racing Regatta

The Elliotts will also be available for qualified club members to hire including for club events such as the Fannie Bay Bucket, Twilights and other club races. Check the club website soon, or talk to the Sailing office for details.
