The DSC Youth Team celebrate their win in the Hardy Aviation Open Match Racing Regatta
The inaugural Hardy Aviation Open match Racing Regatta was conducted on Fannie Bay last Saturday and Sunday. Four teams competed for the Grade 4 regatta, including the DSC Youth MR team, which is travelling to Sydney late this month for the SHARP Australian Youth Match Racing Championships.
After a delayed start on Saturday, with glass-out conditions at the scheduled 1000 hrs commencement time, three rounds robin (9 flights) were conducted in a breeze building from 5 to 14 knots. Results after stage 1 had John Lynch’s youth team on 9 points, Tom Vincent (Team Tom, Lisa, Lisa & Tom) on 5 points, Clancy Grant & co., 4 points and the Hardy team (Andrew Hardy) with 0.
Sunday saw a similar delay to the start of racing, and several teams intensively studying the texts on match racing tactics over coffee, before the semi-finals got underway.
In semi-final 1 Team DSC Youth (Lynch) defeated Team Hardy in straight matches, to gain the necessary two points. Team Toms & Lisa’s also won their two points over Team Grant in two matches.
And so to the finals:
The Petit Finals (first to two points) between Team Grant and Team Hardy saw a win each from the first two matches resulting in a third match to decide third and fourth. Team Grant went on to take the match and third spot in a close race.
In the Final races the John Lynch’s DSC Youth team met Team Tom/Lisa/Lisa/Tom. The youth team showed the benefit of weeks of practice, with great team work and tactics. They went on to win the three points in three matches to take out the inaugural Hardy Aviation Darwin Open Match Racing Regatta.
