Sail, socalise and dine in the heart of Darwin
The DSC Youth Match Racing Team recently competed in the Harken International Youth Match Racing Regatta. The event is held by the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club, sailed on Pittwater with their fleet of Elliott 7’s.
With 12 teams invited to compete from an interested 30, the level of competition was very high. Over half of the competing teams were international with America, Japan, Holland, New Zealand, and New Caledonia all represented. The team would like to thank the RPAYC for inviting us to compete. Regattas such as the Harken provide invaluable experience and lessons.
The team sailed well all week. We were constantly looking to improve throughout the event, and by the end of the week we had achieved the goals we set. Unfortunately, we missed out on the finals series by only one win. Which considering the racing throughout the round robin was very close. We slipped one place during the 9-12 sail off, finishing the regatta in 10th.
Again, we were welcomed by the other teams and coaches and the Harken was a fantastic regatta. We owe thanks to our coach Michael Hanson, Ed Vincent, and the Darwin Sailing Club for their support and financial assistance. The team has upcoming regattas in Sydney and Auckland in early February, where we’ll continue making waves on the youth match racing scene.
