News from the Darwin Sailing Club
Sail, socalise and dine in the heart of Darwin
The first Tuesday night racing for sports boats got under way on Tuesday. Three boats entered. 2 Club Elliot’s and Shaw Thing. At the tightly contested start the Shaw 650 realised the other two were rentals. Rentals are faster! Everyone knows that.
Clancy and Paul’s boat proved consistently the best starter, that match racing last year paying off. On the course the Shaw held its own up wind, and managing to sneak into the lead on the down wind. A Fannie Bay windshift on the top mark was all that prevented Shaw Thing from launching her spinnaker, in a white sail only race. A rule she was blissfully ignorant of.
The most notable event was in race three Shaw Thing attempted to use her Bowsprit to exploit the overlap at the mark rule. The result was mostly the removal of ear wax from Clancy Grants right ear. The protest was adjourned to the bar where Shaw Thing was forgiven as her maneuver backfired spectacularly.
Line honours: in all three races. 1st: The Pomms Tom, Paul and Lisa on Shaw Thing, 2nd Clancy & Paul and co, Third Peter, Matty and Co. Bad light stopped play.
Handicap: results same as above as they banned my spinnaker L
We will all be back next Tuesday - $10 entry + $40 dollars for an Elliot if haven’t time to buy a Shaw before next week. Silverjack – do come and play, I’m sure we’d welcome the Flying Fifteen and Cedric’s Echelles, when its finished! There once was an Elliott 6? Magic? and castle 650? I’ve heard rumours of another sportsboat…
We would like another volunteer or two as well. Anyone wanting to hone their race management skills? For volunteer info call the Sailing Office or email HERE or go the volunteer roster register page HERE
