News from the Darwin Sailing Club
Sail, socalise and dine in the heart of Darwin
Darwin Sailing Club recently hosted the 45th Australian Tasar Class Championships, on Fannie Bay. The championships featured sailors from eight to over seventy, with junior and several Masters age categories as well as the Open competition.
The five day regatta which featured competitors from every state and territory and New Zealand was won by NSW father and daughter team Rob and Nic (Adventures of a Sailor Girl) Douglass ahead of the Royal Australian Navy's Rick Longbottom and Darryl Bentley, with South Australians Craig McPhee and Gill Berry in third.
After nine races, two boats shared 1st place, making the final day a battle. The Douglass' match racing experience, paid off, to make them clear winners.
Finishing in fourth was DSC's Conor Byrne and Kieren Schortz after a masterful performance to win race 7. Thirteen DSC Tasars took part.
DSC also fared well in the Junior Helm competition, with Jed Cruickshank and Finn Niemeir the winners, with Aden McGath, crewed by past World Champion, Tom Winter., finishing second.
The regatta would not have been the success it was, without the willing assistance of those volunteers who contributed on water, on land and by providing billet accommodation for visiting judges. Thank you.
